Frequently Asked Questions

This tool uses OpenAI's gpt-image-1 model to generate and edit images. Your API key is required to authenticate these requests directly with OpenAI. We don't act as a proxy; your key is used directly from your browser.
Your OpenAI API key is initially saved encoded (using Base64) in your browser's local storage. When you generate or edit an image, the key is sent securely over HTTPS to our server as part of the Livewire request. Our server then uses this key to make the necessary call to the OpenAI API on your behalf. The key is only used for this purpose and is not stored permanently on our servers after the request is completed.
Storing keys in local storage is a common practice for client-side applications like this. While it's generally considered safe from direct external access, be mindful of browser extensions or potential cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities on other sites you visit, as they could theoretically access local storage data. For maximum security, consider using dedicated API key management tools or generating keys with limited scopes if needed.
When you enable the mask brush, you can paint over areas of the image you want the AI to change. The AI will then only modify the parts of the image that are covered by your red mask strokes, based on your text prompt, leaving the unmasked areas untouched.
Uploaded images are processed directly in your browser or sent temporarily to OpenAI for editing. Generated/edited images are displayed directly from OpenAI's response or as data URLs in your browser. We do not store your images on our servers.
Costs are based on OpenAI's pricing for the gpt-image-1 model, which considers factors like the number of images generated/edited, image size, and quality settings. The cost log table below provides an estimate based on the usage data returned by the OpenAI API after each operation.
