# x402 Payment Protocol

Use the `npx awal@latest x402` commands to discover, inspect, and call paid API endpoints using the X402 payment protocol. Payments are made in USDC on Base.

## Workflow

The typical x402 workflow is:

1. **Find a service** - Search the bazaar or get details for a known endpoint
2. **Check requirements** - Inspect price, method, and input schema
3. **Make the request** - Call the endpoint with automatic USDC payment

## Commands

### Search the Bazaar

Find paid services by keyword using BM25 relevance search:

Results are cached locally at `~/.config/awal/bazaar/` and auto-refresh after 12 hours.

### List Bazaar Resources

Browse all available resources:

### Discover Payment Requirements

Inspect an endpoint's x402 payment requirements without paying:

Auto-detects the correct HTTP method (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, PATCH) by trying each until it gets a 402 response, then displays price, accepted payment schemes, network, and input/output schemas.

### Make a Paid Request

Call an x402 endpoint with automatic USDC payment:

## USDC Amounts

X402 uses USDC atomic units (6 decimals):

## Prerequisites

- **Search/Details**: No authentication needed
- **Pay**: Must be authenticated (`awal auth login <email>`) with sufficient USDC balance (`awal balance`)

## Error Handling

- "Not authenticated" - Run `awal auth login <email>` first
- "No X402 payment requirements found" - URL may not be an x402 endpoint
- "CDP API returned 429" - Rate limited; cached data will be used if available
- "Insufficient balance" - Fund wallet with USDC (`awal balance` to check)

Overview

This skill lets you discover paid API services and make authenticated API calls using the x402 payment protocol. It searches the bazaar for available endpoints, inspects payment requirements, and executes requests while automatically paying in USDC on Base. Use it when you need to find or call paid APIs without manually handling payments.

How this skill works

Search the bazaar using BM25 relevance to find services, or list all resources filtered by network. Use the details command to probe an endpoint and automatically detect x402 payment requirements (price, accepted schemes, input/output schemas). The pay command then submits the request and completes USDC payment automatically, with options for method, body, headers, query params, and a max payment cap.

When to use it

You need to find a paid API but don’t know which tool to use.
You want to inspect an endpoint’s price and required inputs before paying.
You need to call a paid API and have the tool handle USDC payment on Base.
You want to browse or filter available paid services by network or keyword.
You need to limit or group payments (max amount or correlation id).

Best practices

Search with concise keywords and increase -k for more results when exploring.
Run details on a URL first to validate price, method, and input schema before paying.
Set --max-amount to cap spending and avoid unexpected charges.
Authenticate (awal auth login) and confirm USDC balance before using pay.
Use --json flags for machine-readable output when integrating into scripts.

Probe a vendor endpoint to see exact x402 payment amount and accepted schemes without paying.

FAQ

Do I need an account to search or view details?

No. Searching the bazaar and running details does not require authentication.

When is authentication required?

Authentication is required to make payments with the pay command; run awal auth login <email> and ensure USDC balance.

How are USDC prices represented?

Prices use USDC atomic units (6 decimals). For example, 1000000 = $1.00 and 100000 = $0.10.
