- `--sizes` - Show size distribution
- `--largest <num>` - Show N largest files

## Installation

```bash
# Clone or install the skill
cd ~/.clawdbot/skills
git clone <filesystem-skill-repo>
# Or install via ClawdHub
clawdhub install filesystem
# Make executable
chmod +x filesystem/filesystem
```

## Configuration

Customize behavior via `config.json`:

```json
{
  "defaultPath": "./",
  "maxDepth": 10,
  "defaultFilters": ["*"],
  "excludePatterns": ["node_modules", ".git", ".DS_Store"],
  "outputFormat": "table",
  "dateFormat": "YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss",
  "sizeFormat": "human",
  "colorOutput": true
}
```

## Examples

### Development Workflow
```bash
# Find all JavaScript files in src
filesystem list --path ./src --recursive --filter "*.js" --details
# Search for TODO comments
filesystem search --pattern "TODO|FIXME" --path ./src --content --context 2
# Copy all logs to backup
filesystem copy --pattern "*.log" --to ./backup/logs/ --preserve
# Analyze project structure
filesystem tree --path ./ --depth 2 --size
```

### System Administration
```bash
# Find large files
filesystem analyze --path /var/log --sizes --largest 10
# List recent files
filesystem list --path /tmp --sort date --details
# Clean old temp files
filesystem list --path /tmp --filter "*.tmp" --older-than 7d
```

## Safety Features

- **Path Validation** - Prevents directory traversal attacks
- **Permission Checks** - Verifies read/write access before operations
- **Dry Run Mode** - Preview destructive operations
- **Backup Prompts** - Suggests backups before overwrites
- **Error Recovery** - Graceful handling of permission errors

## Integration

Works seamlessly with other Clawdbot tools:

**Remember**: Great filesystem management starts with the right tools. This skill provides comprehensive operations while maintaining safety and performance.

Overview

This skill provides advanced filesystem operations for AI agents, offering listing, searching, batch processing, and directory analysis tools optimized for Clawdbot workflows. It focuses on safe, efficient file discovery and manipulation with flexible filters, previews, and performance metrics. The skill balances power with safety features like dry-run mode and permission checks.

How this skill works

The skill inspects directory trees and file metadata, performs pattern and content searches, and executes batch file operations with validation and progress tracking. It analyzes sizes and types to produce statistics and tree visualizations, and it supports multiple output formats (table, JSON, tree) for integration. Configurable options and exclude patterns let you tailor scans and operations to project needs.

When to use it

  • Audit project directories to find large files or unused assets
  • Search codebases for TODOs, secrets, or specific patterns across many files
  • Batch-copy or archive subsets of files with a safe dry-run preview
  • Generate directory trees and statistics for documentation or onboarding
  • Automate cleanup tasks like removing old temp files or rotating logs

Best practices

  • Always run operations with --dry-run first when modifying or copying files
  • Use exclude patterns (node_modules, .git) to reduce noise and speed scans
  • Limit recursion depth for very large filesystems to avoid long scans
  • Preserve timestamps and permissions when migrating files between systems
  • Combine name pattern and content searches to reduce false positives

Example use cases

  • List all JavaScript files in src recursively with details for code review
  • Search repository contents for TODO or FIXME comments with context lines
  • Copy all .log files to a backup directory using dry-run, then execute when verified
  • Analyze /var/log to find top 10 largest files before cleanup or archiving
  • Generate an ASCII tree of a project at depth 2 for documentation pages

FAQ

Can I preview file operations before they run?

Yes. Use dry-run mode to see what will change without performing write operations.

How do I avoid scanning vendor folders like node_modules?

Set exclude patterns in config.json or pass exclude/include options on commands to skip those directories.

Does the skill search file contents as well as filenames?

Yes. The search command supports content searching, context lines, and combined filename/content criteria.
