# Zoho Invoice Automation via Rube MCP

Automate Zoho Invoice operations through Composio's Zoho Invoice toolkit via Rube MCP.

**Toolkit docs**: [composio.dev/toolkits/zoho_invoice](https://composio.dev/toolkits/zoho_invoice)

## Prerequisites

- Rube MCP must be connected (RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS available)
- Active Zoho Invoice connection via `RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS` with toolkit `zoho_invoice`
- Always call `RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS` first to get current tool schemas

## Setup

**Get Rube MCP**: Add `https://rube.app/mcp` as an MCP server in your client configuration. No API keys needed — just add the endpoint and it works.

1. Verify Rube MCP is available by confirming `RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS` responds
2. Call `RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS` with toolkit `zoho_invoice`
3. If connection is not ACTIVE, follow the returned auth link to complete setup
4. Confirm connection status shows ACTIVE before running any workflows

## Tool Discovery

Always discover available tools before executing workflows:

```
RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS
queries: [{use_case: "Zoho Invoice operations", known_fields: ""}]
session: {generate_id: true}
```

This returns available tool slugs, input schemas, recommended execution plans, and known pitfalls.

## Core Workflow Pattern

### Step 1: Discover Available Tools

```
RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS
queries: [{use_case: "your specific Zoho Invoice task"}]
session: {id: "existing_session_id"}
```

### Step 2: Check Connection

```
RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS
toolkits: ["zoho_invoice"]
session_id: "your_session_id"
```

### Step 3: Execute Tools

```
RUBE_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL
tools: [{
  tool_slug: "TOOL_SLUG_FROM_SEARCH",
  arguments: {/* schema-compliant args from search results */}
}]
memory: {}
session_id: "your_session_id"
```

## Known Pitfalls

- **Always search first**: Tool schemas change. Never hardcode tool slugs or arguments without calling `RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS`
- **Check connection**: Verify `RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS` shows ACTIVE status before executing tools
- **Schema compliance**: Use exact field names and types from the search results
- **Memory parameter**: Always include `memory` in `RUBE_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL` calls, even if empty (`{}`)
- **Session reuse**: Reuse session IDs within a workflow. Generate new ones for new workflows
- **Pagination**: Check responses for pagination tokens and continue fetching until complete

## Quick Reference

| Operation | Approach |
|-----------|----------|
| Find tools | `RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS` with Zoho Invoice-specific use case |
| Connect | `RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS` with toolkit `zoho_invoice` |
| Execute | `RUBE_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL` with discovered tool slugs |
| Bulk ops | `RUBE_REMOTE_WORKBENCH` with `run_composio_tool()` |
| Full schema | `RUBE_GET_TOOL_SCHEMAS` for tools with `schemaRef` |

Overview

This skill automates Zoho Invoice operations through Composio’s Zoho Invoice toolkit using Rube MCP. It provides a clear pattern to discover tools, verify connections, and execute toolkit operations reliably. It emphasizes always searching tools first so schema changes are handled safely.

How this skill works

The skill queries RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS to retrieve current tool slugs, input schemas, and execution recommendations. It then verifies the Zoho Invoice connection via RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS and runs actions with RUBE_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL (or RUBE_REMOTE_WORKBENCH for bulk runs), always supplying a session_id and memory. The flow enforces schema compliance, session reuse, and pagination handling to ensure accurate, repeatable automation.

When to use it

  • Create, update, or fetch invoices, customers, estimates, and payments in Zoho Invoice programmatically
  • Automate bulk billing or reconciliation workflows using discovered toolkit operations
  • Run scheduled invoice generation or reminders with validated tool schemas
  • Integrate Zoho Invoice flows into multi-step Composio/Rube MCP agent orchestrations
  • When tool schemas may change frequently and you need a safe discovery-first approach

Best practices

  • Always call RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS first to get current tool slugs and input schemas
  • Verify connection status with RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS and complete auth flow until status is ACTIVE
  • Use exact field names and types returned by the search result—do not hardcode arguments
  • Include a memory parameter (even empty {}) in RUBE_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL calls
  • Reuse a session_id across a workflow; create a new session_id for new workflows
  • Inspect responses for pagination tokens and fetch additional pages until complete

Example use cases

  • Discover and execute the correct tool to create recurring invoices for a subscription list
  • Bulk import payments by running a RUBE_REMOTE_WORKBENCH job that calls run_composio_tool() for each record
  • Automate customer onboarding: create customer, create estimate, convert to invoice using discovered tool sequence
  • Run a reconciliation job that pages through transactions with pagination handling and updates records in Zoho Invoice
  • Trigger scheduled invoice reminders by discovering the latest reminder tool schema and executing it with validated args

FAQ

Do I need API keys to use Rube MCP with Zoho Invoice?

No API keys are required to add the Rube MCP server endpoint; authentication for Zoho Invoice is managed per connection via RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS.

What if a tool slug or input schema changes?

Always run RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS at the start of each workflow. Use the returned schemas and recommended plans—never rely on previously hardcoded slugs or arguments.

Can I run bulk operations?

Yes. Use RUBE_REMOTE_WORKBENCH with run_composio_tool() for large or parallel jobs, and ensure you follow pagination and memory rules.
