# U301 Automation via Rube MCP

Automate U301 operations through Composio's U301 toolkit via Rube MCP.

**Toolkit docs**: [composio.dev/toolkits/u301](https://composio.dev/toolkits/u301)

## Prerequisites

- Rube MCP must be connected (RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS available)
- Active U301 connection via `RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS` with toolkit `u301`
- Always call `RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS` first to get current tool schemas

## Setup

**Get Rube MCP**: Add `https://rube.app/mcp` as an MCP server in your client configuration. No API keys needed — just add the endpoint and it works.

1. Verify Rube MCP is available by confirming `RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS` responds
2. Call `RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS` with toolkit `u301`
3. If connection is not ACTIVE, follow the returned auth link to complete setup
4. Confirm connection status shows ACTIVE before running any workflows

## Tool Discovery

Always discover available tools before executing workflows:

```
RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS
queries: [{use_case: "U301 operations", known_fields: ""}]
session: {generate_id: true}
```

This returns available tool slugs, input schemas, recommended execution plans, and known pitfalls.

## Core Workflow Pattern

### Step 1: Discover Available Tools

```
RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS
queries: [{use_case: "your specific U301 task"}]
session: {id: "existing_session_id"}
```

### Step 2: Check Connection

```
RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS
toolkits: ["u301"]
session_id: "your_session_id"
```

### Step 3: Execute Tools

```
RUBE_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL
tools: [{
  tool_slug: "TOOL_SLUG_FROM_SEARCH",
  arguments: {/* schema-compliant args from search results */}
}]
memory: {}
session_id: "your_session_id"
```

## Known Pitfalls

- **Always search first**: Tool schemas change. Never hardcode tool slugs or arguments without calling `RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS`
- **Check connection**: Verify `RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS` shows ACTIVE status before executing tools
- **Schema compliance**: Use exact field names and types from the search results
- **Memory parameter**: Always include `memory` in `RUBE_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL` calls, even if empty (`{}`)
- **Session reuse**: Reuse session IDs within a workflow. Generate new ones for new workflows
- **Pagination**: Check responses for pagination tokens and continue fetching until complete

## Quick Reference

| Operation | Approach |
|-----------|----------|
| Find tools | `RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS` with U301-specific use case |
| Connect | `RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS` with toolkit `u301` |
| Execute | `RUBE_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL` with discovered tool slugs |
| Bulk ops | `RUBE_REMOTE_WORKBENCH` with `run_composio_tool()` |
| Full schema | `RUBE_GET_TOOL_SCHEMAS` for tools with `schemaRef` |

Overview

This skill automates U301 operations using Composio's U301 toolkit via Rube MCP. It provides a repeatable pattern for discovering tools, verifying connections, and executing schema-compliant workflows. The skill emphasizes calling tool discovery first and reusing sessions for reliable automation.

How this skill works

It first queries RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS to retrieve current tool slugs, input schemas, execution plans, and pagination tokens. Next it validates the U301 connection with RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS and ensures the status is ACTIVE. Finally it runs one or more tools via RUBE_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL (including an explicit memory object) or invokes bulk operations with RUBE_REMOTE_WORKBENCH.

When to use it

  • Automate U301 administrative or operational tasks at scale
  • Run multi-step U301 workflows that require current tool schemas
  • Execute bulk or remote workbench jobs against U301 via Composio
  • Integrate U301 operations into Claude-based automation pipelines
  • When you need reliable, schema-compliant tool execution through Rube MCP

Best practices

  • Always call RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS first — tool schemas and slugs can change
  • Verify toolkit connection status with RUBE_MANAGE_CONNECTIONS; require ACTIVE before executing
  • Use exact field names and types returned by search responses to avoid schema errors
  • Include a memory parameter (even {}) in RUBE_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL calls
  • Reuse session_id for steps in the same workflow; generate new session_ids for new workflows
  • Check for pagination tokens and continue fetching until you have full results

Example use cases

  • Discover available U301 tool endpoints and their input schemas before running automation
  • Authenticate and confirm an active u301 connection, then run a deployment or maintenance task
  • Run multi-step operations by composing multiple tools in RUBE_MULTI_EXECUTE_TOOL with schema-compliant arguments
  • Execute bulk processing via RUBE_REMOTE_WORKBENCH using run_composio_tool() for batch workloads
  • Fetch full tool schemas with RUBE_GET_TOOL_SCHEMAS when schemaRef details are required

FAQ

Do I need API keys to use Rube MCP?

No. Add https://rube.app/mcp as an MCP server in your client config; no additional API keys are required.

What if a tool slug or schema changed after I built my workflow?

Always re-run RUBE_SEARCH_TOOLS before executing. Never hardcode slugs or arguments; adapt them from the most recent search response.
