The MCP Warpcast Server is a powerful integration tool that allows Claude to interact with your Warpcast account through the Model Context Protocol. It enables posting casts, reading content, searching, and managing channel interactions all through natural language instructions to Claude.

Installation and Setup

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.11 or newer
  • A Warpcast account with API access

Obtaining a Warpcast API Token

  1. Log in to Warpcast and navigate to Settings > Developer
  2. Click Create API Token and copy the generated value
  3. You'll need this token in the next steps

Configuration with Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop typically launches the MCP server automatically when Warpcast tools are configured. To set this up:

  1. Open your Claude configuration file:

    • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
    • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
  2. Add the Warpcast server under the mcpServers key:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "warpcast": {
      "command": "uvicorn",
      "args": [
        "--app-dir",
        "/ABSOLUTE/PATH/TO/mcp-warpcast-server",
        "main:app",
        "--port",
        "8000"
      ],
      "url": "http://localhost:8000/mcp",
      "env": {
        "WARPCAST_API_TOKEN": "YOUR_API_TOKEN"
      }
    }
  }
}
  1. Replace /ABSOLUTE/PATH/TO/mcp-warpcast-server with the actual path to your installation
  2. Replace YOUR_API_TOKEN with the token you obtained earlier
  3. Save the file and restart Claude Desktop

Manual Server Setup (Optional)

If you need to run the server manually:

  1. Create a Python virtual environment:

    python3 -m venv venv
    source venv/bin/activate

  2. Install dependencies:

    pip install -r requirements.txt

  3. Set your Warpcast API token:

    export WARPCAST_API_TOKEN=YOUR_TOKEN

  4. Start the server:

    uvicorn main:app --reload

Using the Warpcast Integration

After setup, you can interact with Warpcast through Claude by using natural language commands.

Available Commands

You can ask Claude to:

  • "Post a cast about [topic]"
  • "Read the latest casts from [username]"
  • "Search for casts about [topic]"
  • "Show me trending casts on Warpcast"
  • "Show me popular channels on Warpcast"
  • "Get casts from the [channel] channel"
  • "Follow the [channel] channel for me"

Tool Capabilities

This MCP server provides these specific tools to Claude:

  • post-cast: Create new posts (max 320 characters)
  • get-user-casts: Retrieve recent casts from specific users
  • search-casts: Find casts by keyword or phrase
  • get-trending-casts: See what's currently trending
  • get-all-channels: List available channels
  • get-channel: Get details about a specific channel
  • get-channel-casts: View content from a specific channel
  • follow-channel: Follow a channel of interest
  • unfollow-channel: Unfollow a channel

When Claude Desktop is properly configured, you'll see a hammer icon in the chat input that allows you to access these Warpcast tools directly.

How to install this MCP server

For Claude Code

To add this MCP server to Claude Code, run this command in your terminal:

claude mcp add-json "warpcast" '{"command":"uvicorn","args":["--app-dir","/ABSOLUTE/PATH/TO/mcp-warpcast-server","main:app","--port","8000"],"url":"http://localhost:8000/mcp","env":{"WARPCAST_API_TOKEN":"YOUR_API_TOKEN"}}'

See the official Claude Code MCP documentation for more details.

For Cursor

There are two ways to add an MCP server to Cursor. The most common way is to add the server globally in the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file so that it is available in all of your projects.

If you only need the server in a single project, you can add it to the project instead by creating or adding it to the .cursor/mcp.json file.

Adding an MCP server to Cursor globally

To add a global MCP server go to Cursor Settings > Tools & Integrations and click "New MCP Server".

When you click that button the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file will be opened and you can add your server like this:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "warpcast": {
            "command": "uvicorn",
            "args": [
                "--app-dir",
                "/ABSOLUTE/PATH/TO/mcp-warpcast-server",
                "main:app",
                "--port",
                "8000"
            ],
            "url": "http://localhost:8000/mcp",
            "env": {
                "WARPCAST_API_TOKEN": "YOUR_API_TOKEN"
            }
        }
    }
}

Adding an MCP server to a project

To add an MCP server to a project you can create a new .cursor/mcp.json file or add it to the existing one. This will look exactly the same as the global MCP server example above.

How to use the MCP server

Once the server is installed, you might need to head back to Settings > MCP and click the refresh button.

The Cursor agent will then be able to see the available tools the added MCP server has available and will call them when it needs to.

You can also explicitly ask the agent to use the tool by mentioning the tool name and describing what the function does.

For Claude Desktop

To add this MCP server to Claude Desktop:

1. Find your configuration file:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
  • Linux: ~/.config/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

2. Add this to your configuration file:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "warpcast": {
            "command": "uvicorn",
            "args": [
                "--app-dir",
                "/ABSOLUTE/PATH/TO/mcp-warpcast-server",
                "main:app",
                "--port",
                "8000"
            ],
            "url": "http://localhost:8000/mcp",
            "env": {
                "WARPCAST_API_TOKEN": "YOUR_API_TOKEN"
            }
        }
    }
}

3. Restart Claude Desktop for the changes to take effect
