This MCP server implements the Model Context Protocol for the Social Layer platform, providing a stateless, streamable HTTP interface to interact with events, groups, profiles, and venues. It offers various endpoints for retrieving and searching data through a standardized protocol.

Prerequisites

  • Bun (for running and installing dependencies)
  • Node.js (for compatibility with some dependencies)
  • Fly.io account (for deployment, optional)

Installation

Install dependencies using Bun:

bun install

Running the Server

Start the server with:

bun run index.ts

The server will start on port 3000 by default.

Inspecting the Server

You can inspect the running MCP server using the MCP Inspector tool:

bunx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector http://localhost:3000/mcp/public

API Endpoints

The server exposes three main HTTP endpoints:

  • POST /mcp/public — Main endpoint for MCP client-to-server communication
  • GET /mcp/public — Server-to-client notifications via Server-Sent Events (SSE)
  • DELETE /mcp/public — Session termination

All endpoints expect and return JSON-RPC 2.0 payloads.

Available Tools

The following tools are available through the MCP protocol:

Event Tools

  • event/get: Get event details by ID
  • event/list: List events for a group and date range
  • event/search: Search events by keyword

Other Tools

  • group/get: Get group details
  • profile/get: Get profile details
  • venue/get: Get venue details

Deployment

The server is configured for easy deployment on Fly.io:

  1. Install the Fly CLI
  2. Authenticate with your Fly.io account:
    fly auth login

  3. Launch your application:
    fly launch

  4. Deploy the application:
    fly deploy

The included fly.toml file is preconfigured for deployment.

How to install this MCP server

For Claude Code

To add this MCP server to Claude Code, run this command in your terminal:

claude mcp add-json "sola" '{"command":"bun","args":["run","index.ts"]}'

See the official Claude Code MCP documentation for more details.

For Cursor

There are two ways to add an MCP server to Cursor. The most common way is to add the server globally in the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file so that it is available in all of your projects.

If you only need the server in a single project, you can add it to the project instead by creating or adding it to the .cursor/mcp.json file.

Adding an MCP server to Cursor globally

To add a global MCP server go to Cursor Settings > Tools & Integrations and click "New MCP Server".

When you click that button the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file will be opened and you can add your server like this:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "sola": {
            "command": "bun",
            "args": [
                "run",
                "index.ts"
            ]
        }
    }
}

Adding an MCP server to a project

To add an MCP server to a project you can create a new .cursor/mcp.json file or add it to the existing one. This will look exactly the same as the global MCP server example above.

How to use the MCP server

Once the server is installed, you might need to head back to Settings > MCP and click the refresh button.

The Cursor agent will then be able to see the available tools the added MCP server has available and will call them when it needs to.

You can also explicitly ask the agent to use the tool by mentioning the tool name and describing what the function does.

For Claude Desktop

To add this MCP server to Claude Desktop:

1. Find your configuration file:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
  • Linux: ~/.config/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

2. Add this to your configuration file:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "sola": {
            "command": "bun",
            "args": [
                "run",
                "index.ts"
            ]
        }
    }
}

3. Restart Claude Desktop for the changes to take effect
