The eToro MCP Server provides a set of tools for interacting with eToro's public API endpoints, allowing you to fetch user portfolios, look up instrument details, and search for instruments by name. This server helps bypass CORS limitations by handling these requests server-side.

Installation

To set up the eToro MCP Server:

  1. Install dependencies:

    npm install

  2. Start the development server:

    npm run dev

  3. For production use, build the server first:

    npm run build

  4. Then start the production server:

    npm start

Available Tools

The server provides three main tools for interacting with eToro data:

fetch_etoro_portfolio

This tool retrieves an eToro user's portfolio using their username. It automatically handles the conversion of the username to a Customer ID (CID) internally.

Parameters:

  • username: The eToro username
  • authToken (optional): Authorization token for authenticated requests

fetch_instrument_details

Retrieves detailed information for specific eToro instruments.

Parameters:

  • instrumentIds: List of instrument IDs to fetch details for
  • fields (optional): Fields to include in the response (defaults to displayname, threeMonthPriceChange, oneYearPriceChange, lastYearPriceChange)

search_instruments

Performs an autocomplete search for eToro instruments based on a name prefix.

Parameters:

  • namePrefix: The prefix to search for in instrument names
  • fields (optional): Fields to include in the response (defaults to internalInstrumentId, displayname, internalClosingPrice)

Usage Examples

The server exposes a REST API with the following endpoints:

  • List all available tools:

    GET /tools

  • Get the schema for a specific tool:

    GET /tools/:name/schema

  • Execute a tool:

    POST /tools/:name/execute

Example: Fetching a User's Portfolio

To fetch a user's eToro portfolio, use the following curl command:

curl -X POST http://localhost:3000/tools/fetch_etoro_portfolio/execute \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"username": "yoniasia"}'

This will return the portfolio data for the user "yoniasia" in JSON format.

Example: Looking Up Instrument Details

To fetch details for specific instruments:

curl -X POST http://localhost:3000/tools/fetch_instrument_details/execute \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"instrumentIds": [1001, 1002, 1003]}'

Example: Searching for Instruments

To search for instruments with a specific prefix:

curl -X POST http://localhost:3000/tools/search_instruments/execute \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"namePrefix": "Apple"}'

How to install this MCP server

For Claude Code

To add this MCP server to Claude Code, run this command in your terminal:

claude mcp add-json "etoroportfoliomcp" '{"command":"npx","args":["etoroportfoliomcp"]}'

See the official Claude Code MCP documentation for more details.

For Cursor

There are two ways to add an MCP server to Cursor. The most common way is to add the server globally in the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file so that it is available in all of your projects.

If you only need the server in a single project, you can add it to the project instead by creating or adding it to the .cursor/mcp.json file.

Adding an MCP server to Cursor globally

To add a global MCP server go to Cursor Settings > Tools & Integrations and click "New MCP Server".

When you click that button the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file will be opened and you can add your server like this:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "etoroportfoliomcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "etoroportfoliomcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}

Adding an MCP server to a project

To add an MCP server to a project you can create a new .cursor/mcp.json file or add it to the existing one. This will look exactly the same as the global MCP server example above.

How to use the MCP server

Once the server is installed, you might need to head back to Settings > MCP and click the refresh button.

The Cursor agent will then be able to see the available tools the added MCP server has available and will call them when it needs to.

You can also explicitly ask the agent to use the tool by mentioning the tool name and describing what the function does.

For Claude Desktop

To add this MCP server to Claude Desktop:

1. Find your configuration file:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
  • Linux: ~/.config/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

2. Add this to your configuration file:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "etoroportfoliomcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "etoroportfoliomcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}

3. Restart Claude Desktop for the changes to take effect
