This MCP Server for NewsNow provides access to over 40 news sources through the Model Context Protocol. It's designed to be integrated with the NewsNow application to fetch and deliver content from various news outlets.
You can install the MCP server using npm:
npm install newsnow-mcp-server
Alternatively, you can run it directly using npx without installation:
npx -y newsnow-mcp-server
To configure the MCP server, you need to add it to your MCP configuration file. Here's how to set it up:
Create or update your MCP configuration with the following JSON:
{
"mcpServers": {
"newsnow": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"newsnow-mcp-server"
],
"env": {
"BASE_URL": "https://newsnow.busiyi.world"
}
}
}
}
BASE_URL
: Sets the base URL for the news sources. The default is "https://newsnow.busiyi.world"Once configured, the MCP server will be available to your application that uses the Model Context Protocol. It will handle requests for news content from the supported sources.
The server provides access to over 40 news sources that can be queried through the MCP protocol.
After adding the configuration to your MCP settings, your application will be able to access news content by querying the "newsnow" MCP server.
The exact query format will depend on your client application, but it will generally access the server defined in your MCP configuration.
To add this MCP server to Claude Code, run this command in your terminal:
claude mcp add-json "newsnow" '{"command":"npx","args":["-y","newsnow-mcp-server"],"env":{"BASE_URL":"https://newsnow.busiyi.world"}}'
See the official Claude Code MCP documentation for more details.
There are two ways to add an MCP server to Cursor. The most common way is to add the server globally in the ~/.cursor/mcp.json
file so that it is available in all of your projects.
If you only need the server in a single project, you can add it to the project instead by creating or adding it to the .cursor/mcp.json
file.
To add a global MCP server go to Cursor Settings > Tools & Integrations and click "New MCP Server".
When you click that button the ~/.cursor/mcp.json
file will be opened and you can add your server like this:
{
"mcpServers": {
"newsnow": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"newsnow-mcp-server"
],
"env": {
"BASE_URL": "https://newsnow.busiyi.world"
}
}
}
}
To add an MCP server to a project you can create a new .cursor/mcp.json
file or add it to the existing one. This will look exactly the same as the global MCP server example above.
Once the server is installed, you might need to head back to Settings > MCP and click the refresh button.
The Cursor agent will then be able to see the available tools the added MCP server has available and will call them when it needs to.
You can also explicitly ask the agent to use the tool by mentioning the tool name and describing what the function does.
