This MCP server allows you to interact with Confluence pages through Claude Desktop, enabling you to search, retrieve, and update content on your Confluence instance without leaving your Claude interface.
You can install the Confluence Communication Server MCP Server via Smithery using the following command:
npx -y @smithery/cli install @KS-GEN-AI/confluence-mcp-server --client claude
To use with Claude Desktop, you need to add the server configuration to your Claude Desktop config file:
On MacOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
On Windows:
%APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
Add the following configuration to the file:
{
"mcpServers": {
"Confluence communication server": {
"command": "node",
"args": ["/PATH_TO_THE_PROJECT/build/index.js"],
"env": {
"CONFLUENCE_URL": "https://XXXXXXXX.atlassian.net/wiki",
"CONFLUENCE_API_MAIL": "Your email",
"CONFLUENCE_API_KEY": "KEY_FROM: https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens"
}
}
}
}
Make sure to replace:
/PATH_TO_THE_PROJECT/
with the actual path where you installed the serverXXXXXXXX.atlassian.net/wiki
with your Confluence URLYour email
with your Atlassian account emailOnce installed and configured, you can use the following tools to interact with Confluence:
The execute_cql_search
tool lets you search for Confluence pages using CQL (Confluence Query Language):
execute_cql_search(cql="space = 'Engineering' AND title ~ 'Project'", limit=10)
Parameters:
cql
: The CQL query string to search withlimit
: Maximum number of results to return (default: 10)The get_page_content
tool allows you to fetch the content of a specific Confluence page:
get_page_content(pageId="123456")
Parameters:
pageId
: The ID of the Confluence page you want to retrieveThe update_page_content
tool lets you modify content on an existing Confluence page:
update_page_content(pageId="123456", content="New page content here", title="Optional New Title")
Parameters:
pageId
: The ID of the page to updatecontent
: The new content to add to the pagetitle
: (Optional) A new title for the page if you want to change itIf you're having issues with the MCP server, you can use the MCP Inspector for debugging:
npm run inspector
This will provide a URL to access debugging tools in your browser, which can help identify communication issues between Claude and the Confluence server.
To add this MCP server to Claude Code, run this command in your terminal:
claude mcp add-json "Confluence-communication-server" '{"command":"node","args":["/PATH_TO_THE_PROJECT/build/index.js"],"env":{"CONFLUENCE_URL":"https://XXXXXXXX.atlassian.net/wiki","CONFLUENCE_API_MAIL":"Your email","CONFLUENCE_API_KEY":"KEY_FROM: https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens"}}'
See the official Claude Code MCP documentation for more details.
There are two ways to add an MCP server to Cursor. The most common way is to add the server globally in the ~/.cursor/mcp.json
file so that it is available in all of your projects.
If you only need the server in a single project, you can add it to the project instead by creating or adding it to the .cursor/mcp.json
file.
To add a global MCP server go to Cursor Settings > Tools & Integrations and click "New MCP Server".
When you click that button the ~/.cursor/mcp.json
file will be opened and you can add your server like this:
{
"mcpServers": {
"Confluence communication server": {
"command": "node",
"args": [
"/PATH_TO_THE_PROJECT/build/index.js"
],
"env": {
"CONFLUENCE_URL": "https://XXXXXXXX.atlassian.net/wiki",
"CONFLUENCE_API_MAIL": "Your email",
"CONFLUENCE_API_KEY": "KEY_FROM: https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens"
}
}
}
}
To add an MCP server to a project you can create a new .cursor/mcp.json
file or add it to the existing one. This will look exactly the same as the global MCP server example above.
Once the server is installed, you might need to head back to Settings > MCP and click the refresh button.
The Cursor agent will then be able to see the available tools the added MCP server has available and will call them when it needs to.
You can also explicitly ask the agent to use the tool by mentioning the tool name and describing what the function does.
To add this MCP server to Claude Desktop:
1. Find your configuration file:
~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
%APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
~/.config/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
2. Add this to your configuration file:
{
"mcpServers": {
"Confluence communication server": {
"command": "node",
"args": [
"/PATH_TO_THE_PROJECT/build/index.js"
],
"env": {
"CONFLUENCE_URL": "https://XXXXXXXX.atlassian.net/wiki",
"CONFLUENCE_API_MAIL": "Your email",
"CONFLUENCE_API_KEY": "KEY_FROM: https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/security/api-tokens"
}
}
}
}
3. Restart Claude Desktop for the changes to take effect
