Folo-mcp is a Model Context Protocol server for Folo, which allows you to connect various AI applications with your Folo account. This server acts as a bridge, enabling third-party applications to communicate with Folo's AI services through your authenticated session.

Installation and Setup

You can run folo-mcp directly using npx without installing it locally. Before running the server, you'll need to set up your Folo session token as an environment variable.

Prerequisites

  • Node.js installed on your system
  • A valid Folo account with session token

Setting Up Your Session Token

Set the FOLO_SESSION_TOKEN environment variable to your Folo session token:

# On Linux/macOS
export FOLO_SESSION_TOKEN=your_session_token_here

# On Windows (Command Prompt)
set FOLO_SESSION_TOKEN=your_session_token_here

# On Windows (PowerShell)
$env:FOLO_SESSION_TOKEN="your_session_token_here"

Running the Server

After setting up your session token, run the server using npx:

npx folo-mcp -y

The -y flag automatically accepts any prompts during execution.

Configuration for Third-Party Applications

You can connect the folo-mcp server with various AI applications that support the Model Context Protocol.

ChatWise Integration

To configure folo-mcp with ChatWise:

  1. Install and run folo-mcp as described above
  2. Open ChatWise application (https://chatwise.app)
  3. Go to the settings section
  4. Connect to your local MCP server using the URL provided when you start folo-mcp

The server will handle the communication between ChatWise and your Folo account, allowing you to use Folo's capabilities through the ChatWise interface.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter connection issues:

  • Verify that your session token is correct and not expired
  • Ensure the server is running and accessible from your AI application
  • Check if there are any network restrictions blocking the connections
  • Restart the server if it becomes unresponsive

For more detailed information or updates, visit the folo-mcp npm package page.

How to install this MCP server

For Claude Code

To add this MCP server to Claude Code, run this command in your terminal:

claude mcp add-json "folo-mcp" '{"command":"npx","args":["folo-mcp","-y"]}'

See the official Claude Code MCP documentation for more details.

For Cursor

There are two ways to add an MCP server to Cursor. The most common way is to add the server globally in the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file so that it is available in all of your projects.

If you only need the server in a single project, you can add it to the project instead by creating or adding it to the .cursor/mcp.json file.

Adding an MCP server to Cursor globally

To add a global MCP server go to Cursor Settings > Tools & Integrations and click "New MCP Server".

When you click that button the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file will be opened and you can add your server like this:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "folo-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "folo-mcp",
                "-y"
            ]
        }
    }
}

Adding an MCP server to a project

To add an MCP server to a project you can create a new .cursor/mcp.json file or add it to the existing one. This will look exactly the same as the global MCP server example above.

How to use the MCP server

Once the server is installed, you might need to head back to Settings > MCP and click the refresh button.

The Cursor agent will then be able to see the available tools the added MCP server has available and will call them when it needs to.

You can also explicitly ask the agent to use the tool by mentioning the tool name and describing what the function does.

For Claude Desktop

To add this MCP server to Claude Desktop:

1. Find your configuration file:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
  • Linux: ~/.config/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

2. Add this to your configuration file:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "folo-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "folo-mcp",
                "-y"
            ]
        }
    }
}

3. Restart Claude Desktop for the changes to take effect
