The Aligo SMS MCP Server allows you to send SMS messages using the Aligo SMS API through a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. This makes it possible for MCP-compatible AI agents like Claude to send text messages or retrieve related information via simple commands.

Installation

To install the Aligo SMS MCP server, add the following configuration to your MCP settings:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "aligo-sms-mcp": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "github:hongsw/aligo-sms-mcp-server",
        "mcp-server"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Configuration

The API keys need to be configured in a .garakrc file in your home directory. You'll need to obtain your API credentials from the Aligo admin portal at https://smartsms.aligo.in/admin/api/auth.html

Create a .garakrc file with the following content:

ALIGO_API_KEY=YOUR_API_KEY
ALIGO_USER_ID=YOUR_USER_ID
ALIGO_TEST_MODE=Y  # Test mode (Y/N)

Replace YOUR_API_KEY and YOUR_USER_ID with your actual credentials from Aligo.

Using the SMS Service

Accessing the Service

Click on the tools list icon to access the SMS service.

Sending SMS Messages

Once configured, you can send SMS messages using natural language prompts. For example:

010xxxxyyyy 에서 010xxxxyyyy 로 문자를 보내줘 "안녕하세요 MCP 22222입니다." 라는 내용으로

This prompt tells the system to send an SMS from the first number to the second number with the message content "안녕하세요 MCP 22222입니다."

Testing Mode

If you've set ALIGO_TEST_MODE=Y in your configuration, the system will operate in test mode, which allows you to test functionality without sending actual SMS messages.

Verifying Message Delivery

After sending a message, the system will display a confirmation screen showing details of the sent message.

How to install this MCP server

For Claude Code

To add this MCP server to Claude Code, run this command in your terminal:

claude mcp add-json "aligo-sms-mcp" '{"command":"npx","args":["-y","github:hongsw/aligo-sms-mcp-server","mcp-server"]}'

See the official Claude Code MCP documentation for more details.

For Cursor

There are two ways to add an MCP server to Cursor. The most common way is to add the server globally in the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file so that it is available in all of your projects.

If you only need the server in a single project, you can add it to the project instead by creating or adding it to the .cursor/mcp.json file.

Adding an MCP server to Cursor globally

To add a global MCP server go to Cursor Settings > Tools & Integrations and click "New MCP Server".

When you click that button the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file will be opened and you can add your server like this:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "aligo-sms-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "github:hongsw/aligo-sms-mcp-server",
                "mcp-server"
            ]
        }
    }
}

Adding an MCP server to a project

To add an MCP server to a project you can create a new .cursor/mcp.json file or add it to the existing one. This will look exactly the same as the global MCP server example above.

How to use the MCP server

Once the server is installed, you might need to head back to Settings > MCP and click the refresh button.

The Cursor agent will then be able to see the available tools the added MCP server has available and will call them when it needs to.

You can also explicitly ask the agent to use the tool by mentioning the tool name and describing what the function does.

For Claude Desktop

To add this MCP server to Claude Desktop:

1. Find your configuration file:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
  • Linux: ~/.config/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

2. Add this to your configuration file:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "aligo-sms-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "github:hongsw/aligo-sms-mcp-server",
                "mcp-server"
            ]
        }
    }
}

3. Restart Claude Desktop for the changes to take effect
