This MCP server provides a simple sleep/wait tool, allowing you to add delays between operations when using Cline or other MCP-compatible applications. It's particularly useful for tasks like waiting between API calls or testing systems that require time to reach consistency.

Installation

You can install the Sleep MCP Server by following these steps:

git clone https://github.com/Garoth/sleep-mcp.git
npm install

Configuration

To use the Sleep MCP Server with Cline, you need to add it to your MCP settings file. The typical location for this file is: ~/.config/Code/User/globalStorage/saoudrizwan.claude-dev/settings/cline_mcp_settings.json

Add the following configuration to your settings file:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "sleep": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["/path/to/sleep-server/build/index.js"],
      "disabled": false,
      "autoApprove": [],
      "timeout": 300
    }
  }
}

Important Configuration Notes

  • Replace /path/to/sleep-server with the actual path where you cloned the repository
  • The timeout parameter (in milliseconds) must be greater than any sleep duration you plan to use
  • If your sleep duration exceeds the timeout, the operation will fail

Using the Sleep Tool

The Sleep MCP Server provides a single tool:

  • sleep: Waits for a specified duration in milliseconds

When using the server through MCP-compatible applications like Cline, you can invoke the sleep functionality to add delays between operations.

Example Usage

When using with Cline or other MCP clients, you can use the sleep tool to add delays. For example, you might use it in a sequence like:

  1. Make an API call
  2. Sleep for 2000ms (2 seconds)
  3. Make another API call to check if the previous operation completed

The exact syntax for using the tool will depend on your MCP client implementation.

Available Tools

  • sleep: Accepts a duration parameter in milliseconds and waits for the specified time before continuing execution

How to install this MCP server

For Claude Code

To add this MCP server to Claude Code, run this command in your terminal:

claude mcp add-json "sleep" '{"command":"node","args":["/path/to/sleep-server/build/index.js"],"disabled":false,"autoApprove":[],"timeout":300}'

See the official Claude Code MCP documentation for more details.

For Cursor

There are two ways to add an MCP server to Cursor. The most common way is to add the server globally in the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file so that it is available in all of your projects.

If you only need the server in a single project, you can add it to the project instead by creating or adding it to the .cursor/mcp.json file.

Adding an MCP server to Cursor globally

To add a global MCP server go to Cursor Settings > Tools & Integrations and click "New MCP Server".

When you click that button the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file will be opened and you can add your server like this:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "sleep": {
            "command": "node",
            "args": [
                "/path/to/sleep-server/build/index.js"
            ],
            "disabled": false,
            "autoApprove": [],
            "timeout": 300
        }
    }
}

Adding an MCP server to a project

To add an MCP server to a project you can create a new .cursor/mcp.json file or add it to the existing one. This will look exactly the same as the global MCP server example above.

How to use the MCP server

Once the server is installed, you might need to head back to Settings > MCP and click the refresh button.

The Cursor agent will then be able to see the available tools the added MCP server has available and will call them when it needs to.

You can also explicitly ask the agent to use the tool by mentioning the tool name and describing what the function does.

For Claude Desktop

To add this MCP server to Claude Desktop:

1. Find your configuration file:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
  • Linux: ~/.config/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

2. Add this to your configuration file:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "sleep": {
            "command": "node",
            "args": [
                "/path/to/sleep-server/build/index.js"
            ],
            "disabled": false,
            "autoApprove": [],
            "timeout": 300
        }
    }
}

3. Restart Claude Desktop for the changes to take effect
