This MCP server enables you to send emails directly from AI assistants like Cursor or Claude Desktop, eliminating the need to copy and paste content. It utilizes Resend's API to deliver emails composed by your AI assistant.

Installation

Prerequisites

Before installation, you need to set up Resend to send emails from your domain or email address:

  1. Follow the setup instructions on Resend's documentation
  2. Obtain a Resend API key from resend.com

Setting Up the Server

  1. Clone the project repository
  2. Edit index.ts and replace [email protected] with your own email address
  3. Install dependencies and build the project:
npm install
npm run build

This will generate a /build/index.js file which is your MCP server script.

Configuration

For Cursor

  1. Go to Cursor Settings → MCP → Add new MCP server
  2. Configure with these settings:
    • Name: Choose any name you prefer
    • Type: command
    • Command:
node ABSOLUTE_PATH_TO_MCP_SERVER/build/index.js --key=YOUR_RESEND_API_KEY --sender=OPTIONAL_SENDER_EMAIL_ADDRESS --reply-to=OPTIONAL_REPLY_TO_EMAIL_ADDRESS_ONE --reply-to=OPTIONAL_REPLY_TO_EMAIL_ADDRESS_TWO

Replace the placeholders with your specific paths and API keys.

For Claude Desktop

Add the following MCP configuration:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "resend": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["ABSOLUTE_PATH_TO_MCP_SERVER/build/index.js"],
      "env": {
        "RESEND_API_KEY": "[YOUR_API_KEY]",
        "SENDER_EMAIL_ADDRESS": "[OPTIONAL_SENDER_EMAIL_ADDRESS]",
        "REPLY_TO_EMAIL_ADDRESSES": "[OPTIONAL_REPLY_TO_EMAIL_ADDRESSES_COMMA_DELIMITED]"
      }
    }
  }
}

Quick Install via Smithery

You can also install the MCP server automatically for Claude Desktop using Smithery:

npx -y @smithery/cli install @ykhli/mcp-send-email --client claude

Usage

With Cursor

  1. Make sure Cursor chat is in Agent mode by selecting "Agent" in the lower left side dropdown
  2. Open or create an email.md file
  3. Replace the recipient email address in the file
  4. Select all content in the email.md file
  5. Press Cmd+L to open the chat
  6. Tell Cursor to "send this as an email"

Example Email Format

Your email.md file should contain properly formatted email content with headers for recipient, subject, etc.

How to add this MCP server to Cursor

There are two ways to add an MCP server to Cursor. The most common way is to add the server globally in the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file so that it is available in all of your projects.

If you only need the server in a single project, you can add it to the project instead by creating or adding it to the .cursor/mcp.json file.

Adding an MCP server to Cursor globally

To add a global MCP server go to Cursor Settings > MCP and click "Add new global MCP server".

When you click that button the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file will be opened and you can add your server like this:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "cursor-rules-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y",
                "cursor-rules-mcp"
            ]
        }
    }
}

Adding an MCP server to a project

To add an MCP server to a project you can create a new .cursor/mcp.json file or add it to the existing one. This will look exactly the same as the global MCP server example above.

How to use the MCP server

Once the server is installed, you might need to head back to Settings > MCP and click the refresh button.

The Cursor agent will then be able to see the available tools the added MCP server has available and will call them when it needs to.

You can also explictly ask the agent to use the tool by mentioning the tool name and describing what the function does.
