This Solana MCP server provides access to Solana blockchain data through Cline, allowing you to query blockchain information using natural language. It implements 21 essential Solana RPC methods, making blockchain interaction more intuitive and accessible.

Installation

Prerequisites

  • Cline installed on your system
  • Cargo (Rust package manager)

Setup

  1. Clone the repository:

    git clone https://github.com/your-username/solana-mcp-server.git
    cd solana-mcp-server

  2. Add the configuration to your Cline MCP settings file (located at ~/Library/Application Support/Code/User/globalStorage/saoudrizwan.claude-dev/settings/cline_mcp_settings.json on macOS):

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "solana": {
          "command": "cargo",
          "args": ["run"],
          "cwd": "/path/to/solana-mcp-server",
          "env": {
            "SOLANA_RPC_URL": "https://api.mainnet-beta.solana.com"
          }
        }
      }
    }

  3. Restart Cline to load the new MCP server.

Usage

Once set up, you can interact with the Solana blockchain through natural language queries in Cline. The server provides methods in several categories:

Account & Balance Operations

Query account information and balances with questions like:

  • "What's the SOL balance of address Gh9ZwEmdLJ8DscKNTkTqPbNwLNNBjuSzaG9Vp2KGtKJr?"
  • "Show me the token balance for wallet address X"
  • "Get account information for address Y"
  • "List the largest accounts on the network"

Block & Transaction Information

Retrieve information about blocks and transactions:

  • "Show me the current slot number"
  • "Get information about block 12345"
  • "When was block 98765 produced?"
  • "Show transaction details for signature Z"
  • "What's the recent blockhash?"

Token Operations

Work with SPL tokens using queries like:

  • "List all token accounts owned by address A"
  • "Show token accounts delegated to address B"
  • "What's the total supply of token C?"

System Information

Get network and system details:

  • "What's the current epoch information?"
  • "Show me the node version"
  • "Is the network healthy?"
  • "What's the current supply?"
  • "Tell me the current inflation rate"
  • "List all cluster nodes"
  • "What's the minimum balance for rent exemption?"

Staking & Governance

Access staking and governance data:

  • "Show me all vote accounts"
  • "What's the current leader schedule?"

Configuration Options

Environment Variables

  • SOLANA_RPC_URL: (Optional) The Solana RPC endpoint to use
    • Default: "https://api.mainnet-beta.solana.com"
    • You can set this to other endpoints like Devnet or Testnet as needed
    • Example: "SOLANA_RPC_URL": "https://api.devnet.solana.com"

How to install this MCP server

For Claude Code

To add this MCP server to Claude Code, run this command in your terminal:

claude mcp add-json "solana" '{"command":"cargo","args":["run"],"cwd":"/path/to/solana-mcp-server","env":{"SOLANA_RPC_URL":"https://api.mainnet-beta.solana.com"}}'

See the official Claude Code MCP documentation for more details.

For Cursor

There are two ways to add an MCP server to Cursor. The most common way is to add the server globally in the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file so that it is available in all of your projects.

If you only need the server in a single project, you can add it to the project instead by creating or adding it to the .cursor/mcp.json file.

Adding an MCP server to Cursor globally

To add a global MCP server go to Cursor Settings > Tools & Integrations and click "New MCP Server".

When you click that button the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file will be opened and you can add your server like this:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "solana": {
            "command": "cargo",
            "args": [
                "run"
            ],
            "cwd": "/path/to/solana-mcp-server",
            "env": {
                "SOLANA_RPC_URL": "https://api.mainnet-beta.solana.com"
            }
        }
    }
}

Adding an MCP server to a project

To add an MCP server to a project you can create a new .cursor/mcp.json file or add it to the existing one. This will look exactly the same as the global MCP server example above.

How to use the MCP server

Once the server is installed, you might need to head back to Settings > MCP and click the refresh button.

The Cursor agent will then be able to see the available tools the added MCP server has available and will call them when it needs to.

You can also explicitly ask the agent to use the tool by mentioning the tool name and describing what the function does.

For Claude Desktop

To add this MCP server to Claude Desktop:

1. Find your configuration file:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
  • Linux: ~/.config/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

2. Add this to your configuration file:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "solana": {
            "command": "cargo",
            "args": [
                "run"
            ],
            "cwd": "/path/to/solana-mcp-server",
            "env": {
                "SOLANA_RPC_URL": "https://api.mainnet-beta.solana.com"
            }
        }
    }
}

3. Restart Claude Desktop for the changes to take effect
