The Ankr MCP Server provides access to blockchain data through Ankr's API, implementing the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to allow Large Language Models to interact with on-chain information.

Installation

To install the Ankr MCP server package:

npm install @akki91/ankr-mcp

Environment Setup

You'll need an Ankr API token to use this server. Set it as an environment variable:

export ANKR_API_TOKEN=your_api_token_here

Running the Server

Start the server directly from the command line:

npx @akki91/ankr-mcp

Features

Token Operations

The server currently supports the following blockchain data operations:

  • Get Account Balance (get_token_balances_on_network): Retrieves all token balances for a specified address on a specific network
    • Parameters: network, wallet/account address
    • Returns: Asset data for that wallet on the chain

Integrating with AI Applications

Configuration for MCP-Compatible Apps

To use this server with AI applications that support the Model Context Protocol, add the following to your app's server configuration:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "ankr-mcp": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "@akki91/ankr-mcp"
      ],
      "env": {
        "ANKR_API_TOKEN": "your_api_token_here"
      }
    }
  }
}

Setting Up in Claude Desktop

To integrate with Claude Desktop:

  1. Launch Claude Desktop and go to Settings
  2. Open Developer Settings
  3. Edit the configuration file to include the Ankr MCP server definition
  4. Restart Claude Desktop
  5. Verify integration by clicking the Tools Icon below the chat prompt

Using with LLMs

After integration, you can query blockchain data with natural language. For example:

Give me the token balances for wallet address X for network Y.

This leverages the get_token_balances_on_network operation to retrieve and display the requested blockchain information.

How to install this MCP server

For Claude Code

To add this MCP server to Claude Code, run this command in your terminal:

claude mcp add-json "ankr-mcp" '{"command":"npx","args":["@akki91/ankr-mcp"],"env":{"ANKR_API_TOKEN":"your_api_token_here"}}'

See the official Claude Code MCP documentation for more details.

For Cursor

There are two ways to add an MCP server to Cursor. The most common way is to add the server globally in the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file so that it is available in all of your projects.

If you only need the server in a single project, you can add it to the project instead by creating or adding it to the .cursor/mcp.json file.

Adding an MCP server to Cursor globally

To add a global MCP server go to Cursor Settings > Tools & Integrations and click "New MCP Server".

When you click that button the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file will be opened and you can add your server like this:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "ankr-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "@akki91/ankr-mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "ANKR_API_TOKEN": "your_api_token_here"
            }
        }
    }
}

Adding an MCP server to a project

To add an MCP server to a project you can create a new .cursor/mcp.json file or add it to the existing one. This will look exactly the same as the global MCP server example above.

How to use the MCP server

Once the server is installed, you might need to head back to Settings > MCP and click the refresh button.

The Cursor agent will then be able to see the available tools the added MCP server has available and will call them when it needs to.

You can also explicitly ask the agent to use the tool by mentioning the tool name and describing what the function does.

For Claude Desktop

To add this MCP server to Claude Desktop:

1. Find your configuration file:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
  • Linux: ~/.config/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

2. Add this to your configuration file:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "ankr-mcp": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "@akki91/ankr-mcp"
            ],
            "env": {
                "ANKR_API_TOKEN": "your_api_token_here"
            }
        }
    }
}

3. Restart Claude Desktop for the changes to take effect
