This Confluence Cloud MCP Server provides a standardized interface for AI assistants to interact with Confluence Cloud, enabling management of spaces, pages, and content through the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Installation

Docker Installation (Recommended)

The simplest way to use the server is with the pre-built Docker image:

docker run --rm -i \
  -e CONFLUENCE_API_TOKEN=your-api-token \
  -e [email protected] \
  -e CONFLUENCE_DOMAIN=your-domain.atlassian.net \
  ghcr.io/aaronsb/confluence-cloud-mcp:latest

Local Build Installation

You can also build the server locally:

  1. Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/aaronsb/confluence-cloud-mcp.git
cd confluence-cloud-mcp
  1. Build and run using the provided scripts:
# Build the Docker image
./scripts/build-local.sh

# Run the server
CONFLUENCE_API_TOKEN=your-token CONFLUENCE_EMAIL=your-email ./scripts/run-local.sh

Source Installation

If you prefer to run directly from source:

  1. Install dependencies:
npm install
  1. Configure environment variables by creating a .env file:
CONFLUENCE_DOMAIN=your-domain.atlassian.net
[email protected]
CONFLUENCE_API_TOKEN=your-api-token
  1. Build and run:
npm run build
node build/index.js

Integration with AI Assistants

Add the server to your MCP-compatible AI assistant's configuration:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "confluence": {
      "command": "docker",
      "args": ["run", "--rm", "-i", "ghcr.io/aaronsb/confluence-cloud-mcp:latest"],
      "env": {
        "CONFLUENCE_DOMAIN": "your-domain.atlassian.net",
        "CONFLUENCE_EMAIL": "[email protected]",
        "CONFLUENCE_API_TOKEN": "your-api-token"
      },
      "disabled": false,
      "autoApprove": []
    }
  }
}

Available Tools

Space Management

  • list_confluence_spaces: Retrieve all spaces in your Confluence instance
  • get_confluence_space: Get detailed information about a specific space

Page Operations

  • list_confluence_pages: View all pages within a specified space
  • get_confluence_page: Retrieve a specific page and its content (automatically converts Confluence format to Markdown)
  • create_confluence_page: Create a new page in a space
  • update_confluence_page: Modify an existing page

Search and Labels

  • search_confluence_pages: Find content using Confluence Query Language (CQL)
  • get_confluence_labels: View labels attached to a page
  • add_confluence_label: Add a new label to a page
  • remove_confluence_label: Delete a label from a page

Content Conversion

The get_confluence_page tool automatically converts Confluence's storage format to Markdown, handling:

  • Headers (h1-h6)
  • Ordered and unordered lists
  • Links
  • Bold and italic text
  • Code blocks
  • Tables
  • Paragraphs and line breaks

This makes page content more accessible and easier to work with in AI interactions.

How to install this MCP server

For Claude Code

To add this MCP server to Claude Code, run this command in your terminal:

claude mcp add-json "confluence" '{"command":"docker","args":["run","--rm","-i","ghcr.io/aaronsb/confluence-cloud-mcp:latest"],"env":{"CONFLUENCE_DOMAIN":"your-domain.atlassian.net","CONFLUENCE_EMAIL":"[email protected]","CONFLUENCE_API_TOKEN":"your-api-token"},"disabled":false,"autoApprove":[]}'

See the official Claude Code MCP documentation for more details.

For Cursor

There are two ways to add an MCP server to Cursor. The most common way is to add the server globally in the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file so that it is available in all of your projects.

If you only need the server in a single project, you can add it to the project instead by creating or adding it to the .cursor/mcp.json file.

Adding an MCP server to Cursor globally

To add a global MCP server go to Cursor Settings > Tools & Integrations and click "New MCP Server".

When you click that button the ~/.cursor/mcp.json file will be opened and you can add your server like this:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "confluence": {
            "command": "docker",
            "args": [
                "run",
                "--rm",
                "-i",
                "ghcr.io/aaronsb/confluence-cloud-mcp:latest"
            ],
            "env": {
                "CONFLUENCE_DOMAIN": "your-domain.atlassian.net",
                "CONFLUENCE_EMAIL": "[email protected]",
                "CONFLUENCE_API_TOKEN": "your-api-token"
            },
            "disabled": false,
            "autoApprove": []
        }
    }
}

Adding an MCP server to a project

To add an MCP server to a project you can create a new .cursor/mcp.json file or add it to the existing one. This will look exactly the same as the global MCP server example above.

How to use the MCP server

Once the server is installed, you might need to head back to Settings > MCP and click the refresh button.

The Cursor agent will then be able to see the available tools the added MCP server has available and will call them when it needs to.

You can also explicitly ask the agent to use the tool by mentioning the tool name and describing what the function does.

For Claude Desktop

To add this MCP server to Claude Desktop:

1. Find your configuration file:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
  • Linux: ~/.config/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json

2. Add this to your configuration file:

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "confluence": {
            "command": "docker",
            "args": [
                "run",
                "--rm",
                "-i",
                "ghcr.io/aaronsb/confluence-cloud-mcp:latest"
            ],
            "env": {
                "CONFLUENCE_DOMAIN": "your-domain.atlassian.net",
                "CONFLUENCE_EMAIL": "[email protected]",
                "CONFLUENCE_API_TOKEN": "your-api-token"
            },
            "disabled": false,
            "autoApprove": []
        }
    }
}

3. Restart Claude Desktop for the changes to take effect
