New! Interactive Reader's Theater Workshop ... Reserve your spot!
Discover the power of Reader's Theater to build reading fluency and confidence in students in this fun, entertaining and interactive workshop.

In just 2 short hours, participants will learn....

  • How Reader's Theater is a compelling, engaging and easy-to-implement academic reading activity that meets literacy requirements under Title One, Reading First, 21st CCLC, etc.
  • Why Reader's Theater is an approved form of "Repeated Guided Oral Reading;" a research-based and proven method for improving reading fluency and comprehension
  • How Reader's Theater doesn't require memorization, props, or a stage and is much easier to implement than typical theatrical plays and provides a balanced platform for all students to shine, rather than a spotlight for just a few
  • Different reading, performance and grouping methods and what works best.
  • How Reader's Theater provides reading role models for academic growth
  • The impact multi-leveled and color-coded text has on reading, listening, and speaking success.
  • The importance of assigning roles and structuring groups carefully and purposefully and the factors to consider.
  • How to structure a weekly program with proper repetition and rotation for different types of programs and goals (e.g., Title One classroom, After-school program, Summer School camp, etc.) and over varied lengths of time.
  • Coaching techniques for acting and expression, read-aloud etiquette, the optional use of mini-costumes, and rewarding students for exceptional effort and performance.
  • Why and how to include cross-curricular activities, and how to enhance a Reader's Theater program with "over-acting" games.
  • How to measure the effectiveness of a Reader's Theater program including an assessment plan and techniques for before, during, and after the program.
  • The importance of including the "arts" in after-school programs in altering the attitudes of young people toward themselves and each other.
  • How learning in and through the arts can help students overcome the obstacles of disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • How to include Reader's Theater in your grant applications.
Participants get hands-on experience assigning roles and actually performing a short Reader's Theater play right in the workshop in small non-threatening groups. Encourage others to attend with you and share the fun!
