When I decided to give up all that for a quiet life and go into service as a gentleman's gentleman, I don't think I chose at all the right position with Monsieur Fogg! It seems ever since he hired me, my life has been just one crisis after another. But then, on the other hand, who wants to just sit and only imagine exciting happenings?

My name is Aouda, which is pronounced "Ow-oo-dah," and I am from India. I was married to a rajah-that's an Indian prince-but when he died, a terrible fate awaited me. It is only thanks to Mr. Fogg and Passepartout that I am here tell you about myself. Why don't you read the book and find out what almost happened to me?

Bank Director-Ralph                                               1% of story

My name is Gautiere Ralph, and I am a director of the Bank of England, so I'm in a good position to know the value of money. I also play cards with Fogg. I don't know what possessed that man to want to throw away such a huge sum in such an irresponsible manner. But as long as he insists on doing it, I'm not going to stand by and let someone else benefit. I put my own bet down immediately. Wouldn't you?

Fix, the Detective                                                           9% of story

I am Fix, and I am a detective. I am hot on the trail of a thief who robbed the Bank of England of fifty-five thousand pounds. It is the year 1872, and this is a great sum of money! Why, it's enough to purchase more than a dozen homes in England. And I'll let you in on a little secret-I believe that I've already found my man! That's why I'm applying for a warrant for this very suspicious person's arrest. I have to wait until he is on English soil, and then I'll pounce. And, let me tell you, I intend to follow him all around the world, if necessary.

Small Parts 1                                                                   5% of story

I am the British Consul at Suez, and it is my job to stamp the travel documents of all passengers who pass through here. I was approached by a man who said he was a detective, and who claimed to be following a robbery suspect. The description he gave me though sounded so general that the thief could have been anyone. Do you suppose he really knows what he's doing?
I am a poor elephant driver. I never had much contact with English gentlemen before, but now suddenly this Mr. Fogg came to India and hired me to take him across country by elephant. Who knows what dangerous situations I could get into just by working for him?
My name is Stamp Proctor-that's Colonel Stamp Proctor to you! I have very definite opinions about everything, and heaven help you if you don't agree with me. I especially hate strangers from other countries-especially those opinionated Englishmen, like that know-it-all Fogg. I have absolutely no use for foreigners. Who do they think they are? Why don't they all go home-and-better yet-stay there? I'm even ready to fight a duel to keep the peace!

My name is Sir Francis Cromarty, and I'm in the army, stationed in India. I have been here so long that I'm considered something of an expert in the customs, history and character of India and her people. I met Mr. Fogg in somewhat trying circumstances on my way to Benares, when we had an unfortunate experience with our train.
I am a boat pilot, and I was able to give a concerned traveler some very welcome news about a delay in the departure of his vessel.
I am John Bunsby, and I own a pilot-boat in Hong Kong. I thought Mr. Fogg was hiring my vessel for an excursion around the bay, but then he broke the news that I was in for a long trip - not to mention a typhoon!
I am a Captain in the United States Army, and I command a cavalry troop stationed near Fort Kearney. My military duty is to keep the railroad safe from marauding Indians, and guarantee the safety of the trains that pass through. As if that isn't difficult enough-now this Mr. Fogg wants me to lead my soldiers and go chasing off after some captives that were taken during a raid. How can I go off with him and leave everything to the mercy of the fierce Sioux warriors?
My name is Andrew Speedy and I own a trading vessel. It was in a New York harbor when I met Mr. Fogg. I was intending to take my boat to Bordeaux in France to pick up cargo, but he soon "persuaded" me to abandon that destination, and "convinced" me that the place I really wanted to go to was Liverpool. Can you believe that I changed my mind "intentionally?"

My name is Andrew Stuart and I am an engineer. In my leisure time I enjoy visiting my club and playing cards. Now it just so happens that one of the gentlemen with whom I play has some ridiculous notion that he can travel around the world in eighty days. So, naturally, I put up a good amount of money to prove him wrong. Let me tell you, I'm looking forward to collecting on such an easy bet.
