But Nikki and Shawna were in for a very unusual surprise. A simple ride on a merry-go-round took them much farther than they ever could have imagined. It brought them to the future! Arriving at their strange destination, they encountered an extraordinary individual, a talking squirrel, who urgently needed their help. Nikki and Shawna agreed to make changes in their own time to save the squirrel family in the future, but they would need the help of the whole community. Would the community join together? If so, all they needed was time. |
FREE Reading Assessment Test Imagine starting the school year confronted with students whose reading abilities span three to four grade levels. Managing this diversity can be challenging and calls for flexible small group reading strategies so all students thrive in the classroom. Research and analysis performed by the National Reading Panel (2000) has found correlations between small group instruction and improved reading outcomes. Playbooks® Reader's Theater is an effective small group instructional format that thoroughly engages both the advanced and struggling reader. According to Reading First guidelines, student placement in small groups should be determined by ongoing assessments beginning with a pre-assessment to determine the student's stage of readiness (Hall, 2002). Playbooks, Inc. has made pre-assessment and ongoing assessments a very quick and easy task to implement. Our FREE online readability test takes only two minutes to execute and will rate a student's Playbook® reading level. There is no limit to the number of times the assessment test can be used. The assessment requires a child to read aloud passages of text that are leveled appropriately for each grade level. At the bottom of the screen, the teacher rates how well the student reads each passage. At the end of the test, the results are immediately shown. The student's Playbook® reading level is identified and a correlation to the DRA, Fountas & Pinnell/Guided Reading, Reading Recovery and Lexile reading scales is available at www.playbooks.com/readabilty.shtml. Based on teacher recommendations in development, the Playbook® Reading Levels are simplified to only 6 levels for practical classroom use. Test Your Students with the Playbook® Reading Level Test here. Playbooks, Inc. recommends performing a pre-assessment on each student before initiating a Playbook® Reader's Theater story. After twelve weeks, conduct another assessment test to measure the change in reading performance. On average, students can improve two to three grade levels after participating in a three month Playbooks® Reader's Theater program. |
