After School Activity for Building Fluent Readers
Ft. Lauderdale, FL - (March 10, 2008) - Playbooks, Inc., is introducing a new Reader’s Theater story product line for grades K-12 at the 20th annual National Afterschool Association Conference being held March 12 –14, 2008 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Playbooks, Inc. has upgraded the existing Reader’s Theater method using a unique, patented format that enriches students learning experience. I requires little prep time and is easy for program administrators to implement. Free story samples showing the Playbooks® Reader’s Theater exclusive format are available at booth #1111 in the Greater Ft. Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center.
Reader’s Theater stories are written in a format similar to a play with dramatic character dialogue that is read aloud by a group of readers. Students bring the story to life by portraying an assigned character role. No memorization, props, costumes or stage is required, but expressive voices and gestures enhance the experience. Nationwide Reader’s Theater is growing in popularity with out of school programs, because students are engaged in a fun, interactive activity while meeting academic core content standards. Students in a Reader’s Theater program are scoring higher on tests, demonstrating greater reading fluency and strengthening their comprehension skills.
Over 65 Playbooks® Reader’s Theater titles are available and include the adapted classics, original tales, and themed sets in social studies and character development. Playbooks® Reader’s Theater stories are packaged in a clear plastic, durable pouch with multiple copies of the story for each character part, an administrator handbook with lesson plans, and supplemental activity sheets that build skills in the core content areas.
