A Classic Story of the Three Goats Gruff...with a Healthy Twist!

Children learn the darker green a vegetable is, the healthier it is to eat!

May 23, 2008 , Ladera Ranch, CA Playbooks, Inc. announces the release of its newest title, The Three Goats Gruff Go to the Greener Side, written by Krista Lundgren of Laguna Hills, CA. This creative adaptation of the classic tale presents a funny and healthy twist and a dose of green vegetables, too!

Most every one knows the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. Well, the troll is the same, always hungry and not very bright, but this time there are only two billy goats because the third is a girl! Sister Gruff has a clever plan to teach the ugly troll a lesson or two. Not only does she trick him into letting herself and her brothers cross the bridge, she educates him and the readers about the value of eating vegetables and that the darker green they are, the healthier they become. The endearing characters and this enchanting story capture young readers' attention as a familiar favorite while also teaching a valuable health lesson!

The Reader’s Theater format provides an engaging method for students to take on character roles and bring a story to life with dramatic expression. Memorization is not necessary because Reader’s Theater is designed for informal out-loud reading. With “Repeated Guided Oral Reading” being the best proven method for building reading fluency, Reader’s Theater is the most dynamic solution that also brings excitement and fun to reading aloud in the classroom.

This Playbook® Reader’s Theater story has been designed for young children in Kindergarten through Second Grade and has five character roles with each written to target a specific reading level. Roles at three different levels within the same story allow teachers to group high, medium, and low level readers together where they become reading and performing role models for each other. Each character role also appears in a different color of text helping students to easily track their part and take ownership and security in their role. The multiple reading levels of dialogue, and the opportunities for dramatic role-playing, encourage readers of differing skill levels by modeling higher levels of reading, vocabulary and creative expression. Playbooks® Reader’s Theater is used in thousands of schools across the country to promote reading and speaking skills in children of all ages and to engage students in a love of reading.

In her free time, Krista enjoys volunteering with homeless rabbits at a local animal shelter, expanding her musical interests, and of course, reading.  For Krista, both experiencing and creating literature are synonymous with play!
